3 December: International Day of Disability. To a Syndicate content accessible and without barriers
The Omnia Network we also celebrate the International Day of Disability, so spent 12 years working for social inclusion of people by creating opportunities and to provide tools that improve the skills and participation in society. Now more than ever, we are aware of the shortcomings and that is the way to go, but we also present the good work done and points to the involvement of many professionals to build an affordable project.
Accessibility is a synonym for everyone. Working with accessibility criteria is to promote access to secure areas, resources, actions to anyone regardless of the characteristics that have, without limitation. This means thinking and design criteria of "universal design", thus avoiding having to adapt spaces, resources, equipment or materials.
This approach focuses on accessibility is not just something for people with disabilities. Everyone has limitations in one form or another and as we age increases the likelihood that manifest sensory deficits, cognitive and physical, so it is essential to work thinking about the functional diversity of people.
The Omnia project begins to ensure access to Information Technologies and Communication Technology (ICT) to any person regardless of their economic or educational level, ensuring social inclusion using ICT as a tool. Result of the development project and the needs analysis of actual practice, begins work to raise awareness about the importance of personalized attention to individual needs of participants, opening up new users with points to certain disabilities, especially mentally, and initiatives of workshops with people with mental disorder, blind, deaf and disabled also provided the architectural accessibility of the center allows it.
This line of work centered on the axis of accessibility aims to raise awareness about the need to create appropriate materials to support the adaptation of the interface work with computers and especially in the approach to ensure a respectful person, and promote their abilities and not their disabilities. Is a line that has led to a pilot accessibility with the provision of a package of technical assistance to the Omnia point of La Seu d'Urgell and the neighborhood of Mills Mataro, also on the inclusion of theme promoted by the project officer training in the publication of several software resources by working with people with disabilities through Tasta'm of ODC and roundtables on the subject have been organized in two last days of the Internet Social presentation of experiences and discussion about them.
